How to Get to Imdina
Mdina (Imdina) is reached via Malta International Airport (MLA) with a short bus or taxi onward to the medieval city. Malta has no trains; public Tallinja buses link the island and are the usual public transport choice to Mdina/Rabat.
Malta International Airport (MLA): Malta’s only international airport is at Luqa, about 8-10 km from Mdina/Imdina. From the terminal take a Tallinja public bus or an airport taxi; the bus to Valletta takes about 20-25 minutes and costs €2 (single cash fare), then change for a short bus to Mdina/Rabat (see Bus below). A taxi direct to Mdina is typically €18-€25 and takes around 20-25 minutes.
Train: Malta has no train network.
Bus: Mdina (often spelled Imdina in English) is served by Malta Public Transport buses from Valletta and other main hubs. From Valletta the bus ride is about 20-30 minutes and a single adult cash fare is €2. Buses stop at Rabat (Mdina Gate) and are the most economical way to reach the medieval city.
How to Get Around Imdina #
Mdina (Imdina) is essentially pedestrian inside the city walls - the best way to see it is on foot. Buses run to nearby Rabat and Valletta; parking is outside the walls, so expect a short walk into the core. Taxis are available but limited; explore the narrow streets by walking and bring comfortable shoes for uneven lanes.
