Île Jésus is an island in southwestern Quebec that constitutes the principal part of the City of Laval. It lies immediately north of the Island of Montreal in the Saint Lawrence River system.
The island contains suburban and urban neighbourhoods, parks and some remaining agricultural areas toward its northern end; municipal services and cultural facilities are concentrated across the island as part of Laval. It functions as a commuter and residential area in the Montreal metropolitan region.
Historically settled in the 17th and 18th centuries, the island’s municipalities were merged in 1965 to create the unified City of Laval, which administers the island today.
Île Jésus sits directly north of the Island of Montreal, separated by the Rivière des Prairies, and is part of the greater Montreal metropolitan area.
