Ietas (ancient Iaitas) is an archaeological site near modern San Giuseppe Jato in western Sicily, representing an ancient settlement on a strategic hilltop. The site preserves traces of habitation and defensive works.
Occupation at Ietas spans indigenous and classical periods when hilltop settlements were used for defence and control of surrounding territory. Over time the settlement’s role shifted with political and cultural changes in Sicily, leaving material traces that have been investigated by archaeologists.
Situated inland in western Sicily near San Giuseppe Jato and the Palermo hinterland, the site crowns a local hill and commands views across the surrounding agricultural plain.
