How to Get to Hwacheon County
Hwacheon County is best reached by bus from Seoul or by train to Chuncheon followed by a short bus or taxi. Public buses from Seoul's bus terminals provide direct and frequent services and are usually the most practical option.
Incheon International Airport (ICN) / Gimpo (GMP): The main international gateways to South Korea are in Seoul; from Seoul you travel by bus or train to reach Hwacheon County. Domestic flights are unnecessary - travel is easiest by land.
Yangyang / Wonju (regional airports): There are smaller regional airports (e.g., Yangyang) but they are less useful; land connections from Seoul (by bus or rail + bus) are the usual route to Hwacheon.
Train: There is no direct KTX/express train to Hwacheon; the common rail option is to take a train to Chuncheon and then transfer by bus or taxi. Chuncheon Station is served by ITX-Cheongchun and other regional services from Seoul; journey from Seoul to Chuncheon takes about 50-90 minutes on ITX.
Bus: Intercity buses run from Seoul (Dong Seoul Bus Terminal or Express Bus Terminal) to Hwacheon Bus Terminal; travel time is about 1.5-2.5 hours depending on traffic. Fares are typically in the range of 7,000-12,000 KRW for intercity buses.
