Most international travelers arrive through Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD), Hungary’s primary gateway and one of the country’s major airports handling high volumes of traffic. It is the main air access point for Budapest, the capital on the Danube and the usual start for itineraries that also include places like the Danube Bend, Eger, and Pécs.
Beyond Budapest, Debrecen International Airport (DEB) is the key airport for Debrecen, Hungary’s second city in the Great Plain and Puszta region. Hévíz, Balaton Airport (SOB) matters for reaching Lake Balaton, including Keszthely at the west end of the lake. In southern Transdanubia, Pécs-Pogány International Airport (PEV) connects with Pécs. Hungary also has one domestic airport with scheduled service, Győr-Pér Airport (QGY), and domestic flying is a smaller piece of getting around compared with visiting regions and cities by other overland routes between Budapest, Lake Balaton, and regional hubs like Debrecen and Pécs.
