Humboldt Redwoods State Park is a state park on California’s North Coast in Humboldt County that protects a large portion of remaining old-growth coast redwood forest. The park covers roughly 51,000 acres and conserves extensive stands of tall, ancient redwoods.
The park’s principal attractions are its old-growth redwood groves and the long scenic drive known as the Avenue of the Giants, which runs about 31 miles and offers numerous trailheads, picnic sites and viewpoints. Popular visitor activities include hiking, camping, wildlife viewing and photography beneath trees that frequently exceed 300 feet in height.
The forested land was assembled through purchases and donations to protect remaining redwoods from logging and to preserve representative old-growth stands. Management focuses on conservation, public access on designated trails and protection of sensitive groves.
Geographically the park lies along U.S. Highway 101 in the coastal redwood belt of northern California, within Humboldt County, and is accessed via several small towns and highway exits along the route.

How to Get to Humboldt Redwoods State Park #
From U.S. Route 101, take the Avenue of the Giants (Humboldt County Route) near Weott and follow signs to park entrances and trailheads. The park is approximately a 2.5-3 hour drive north from San Francisco; mainstream car rentals serve the route. There are several access points along the Avenue of the Giants with parking and interpretive signs.
