How to Get to Gujangbagh
Gujangbagh (Hotan / Hetian) is served locally by Hotan Airport (HTN) and Hotan Railway Station (和田站). You can reach Hotan by regional flights, regular China Railway services from nearby cities, or long-distance coaches from other southern Xinjiang hubs.
Hotan Airport (HTN): Hotan (Hetian) is served by Hotan Airport with regular flights to Urumqi and Kashgar and occasional connections to other regional hubs. From the airport there is an airport shuttle / express bus into central Hotan (typically around 10 CNY, 20-30 minutes) and taxis to the city centre cost roughly 20-40 CNY and take about 15-25 minutes depending on traffic.
Train: Hotan Railway Station (和田站) handles regional China Railway services. Trains connect Hotan with Kashgar and Aksu and there are longer overnight services toward Urumqi; journey times vary (Kashgar-Hotan around 4-6 hours on regular services) and fares depend on seat/berth class (typically tens to a few hundred CNY).
Bus: Long-distance coaches run from Hotan’s main coach/transport hub (often referred to as Hetian passenger transport stations) to nearby cities such as Kashgar, Yarkand and Aksu. Buses are the budget option - fares commonly range from a few dozen to around a hundred CNY and travel times depend on route (for example, Hotan-Kashgar is several hours by road).
How to Get Around Gujangbagh
Hotan is best reached by regional flight or by China Railway from neighbouring cities; long-distance buses offer the cheapest links. Within the city, taxis (or ride-hailing where available) are the most convenient, while buses and walking are fine for budget or short trips.
- Intercity train (China Railway) (20-300 CNY) - Trains are a comfortable and reliable way to move between Hotan and other southern Xinjiang cities. Services call at Hotan Railway Station (和田站) with direct links to Kashgar and Aksu and overnight trains toward Urumqi. Book tickets in advance during holidays; soft-seat/soft-sleeper options cost more but are worth it for longer overnight runs.
- Long-distance bus (30-150 CNY) - Coaches connect Hotan with Kashgar, Yarkand, Aksu and other regional towns from the city's passenger transport hubs. Buses are the cheapest intercity option and can be frequent, but journeys are subject to road conditions and can be much slower than trains. Bring water and snacks for longer trips; stations typically sell tickets on the day or a short time in advance.
- Domestic flights (300-1000 CNY) - Flights to Hotan Airport are the fastest way to reach the city from Urumqi and other regional hubs, especially if distances are large. Expect higher cost than rail or bus but big savings in time; check schedules as frequencies vary seasonally. Factor in airport transfer time - Hotan's airport is a short drive from the centre.
- Taxis & ride-hailing (10-60 CNY) - Local taxis are plentiful and the most convenient way to get around Hotan if you have luggage or limited time. Short inner-city trips typically cost in the low tens of CNY; negotiate or ensure the meter is used. Ride-hailing apps may work intermittently - taxis remain the most reliable choice.
- City buses & minibuses (1-5 CNY) - Hotan has a network of city buses and shared minibuses that serve the main neighborhoods and markets. Fares are very cheap (usually 1-5 CNY) but routes can be confusing for non-locals and signage may be primarily in Chinese. Use buses for short daytime hops and to save money; keep small change handy.
- Walking - Central Hotan is compact enough for walking between markets, mosques and many hotels. Streets and bazaars are best explored on foot, but plan walks for the cooler parts of the day - summers are hot and sun exposure can be strong.
