Regular small ferries and boats operate from Bandar Abbas and from ports on Qeshm Island to Hormuz; the boat trip duration varies by departure point but is typically under a few hours. Once ashore on Hormuz the main village and beaches are a short walk or taxi ride from the ferry landing; check local ferry timetables as services are subject to change.
Tips for Visiting Hormuz Island #
- Take an early morning ferry from Qeshm or Bandar Abbas to Hormuz and confirm schedules in advance-boats can be irregular and return crossings may fill or be canceled on short notice.
- Use the island's main port as your base and hire a local driver or 4x4 to reach interior sights; many of Hormuz's roads are unpaved and local drivers know the safest, fastest routes.
- Plan to see the Rainbow Valley (colorful soil formations), the Red Beach and the Portuguese fort (the old castle) in the same loop; visit these sites earlier in the day when light is best and crowds are smaller.
