In southeastern Nebraska, Homestead National Historical Park interprets the Homestead Act with reconstructed claim shacks, a visitors’ centre, archives and prairie trails illustrating settler life and land claims.
Homestead National Historical Park preserves sites and stories related to the U.S. Homestead Act and westward settlement. It interprets homesteading, land claims and rural life during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The park includes a visitor center with exhibits, preserved homestead structures and landscape areas used to demonstrate period farming and settlement practices. Educational programs, guided tours and living-history demonstrations explain the process of claiming and working homestead parcels.
The site was established to commemorate the impact of the Homestead Act and to preserve representative homestead properties; its collections and programs have expanded to document descendants’ histories and broader settlement patterns.
