The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a public sidewalk monument in the Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles honoring notable figures in the entertainment industry with embedded stars for achievements in film, television, music, radio, and theatre. It was created in the late 1950s and the first stars were installed in 1960.
The installation stretches along sections of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, containing thousands of individual stars that name actors, directors, producers, musicians, and other entertainment professionals. Many celebrities receive public unveiling ceremonies at their star locations.
The Walk of Fame was developed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the entertainment industry and to attract tourists; it has since become an internationally recognized urban landmark.
It is located in Hollywood in the City of Los Angeles, easily accessed from downtown Los Angeles and nearby neighborhoods.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame runs along Hollywood Boulevard (and along parts of Vine Street) in Hollywood, Los Angeles. By car take US‑101 (Hollywood Freeway) to the Hollywood Boulevard exits and follow signs for Hollywood; there is street parking and nearby lots. For transit, take the Los Angeles Metro B Line (formerly Red Line) to Hollywood/Highland or Hollywood/Vine station - both stations are adjacent to the Walk of Fame and are a short (a few minutes’) walk to the busiest sections.
Tips for Visiting Hollywood Walk of Fame #
- Visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame early in the morning (before 9:00 a.m.) to avoid tour groups and heavy pedestrian traffic and to get unobstructed photos of stars and the TCL Chinese Theatre forecourt.
- Start your walk at Hollywood & Highland for the best view of the Chinese Theatre and to take advantage of nearby viewpoints and side streets that are often less crowded than the main sidewalk.
- Many tourists miss the side alleys, handprint displays and small museums adjacent to the Walk - step into the forecourt and neighboring theaters for quieter, historically rich stops.
