Holašovice Historic Village
Historical Site Perfectly preserved South Bohemian village with rustic Baroque houses
Compact South Bohemian village clustered around a pond, with timber- and plastered farmhouses and farmyard layouts preserved from the rural Baroque period; a clear example of historic village planning.
Holašovice Historic Village is a small South Bohemian settlement in the Czech Republic notable for its exceptionally well preserved folk Baroque architecture and traditional village plan. The majority of surviving farmhouses date from the 18th and 19th centuries and retain original timber framing and painted facades.
The village is arranged around a triangular green with white-plastered, timbered farm dwellings and outbuildings that together form a consistent vernacular ensemble. The houses, fences and interior spaces offer a clear example of regional rural architecture and agricultural settlement patterns.
Much of the village fabric has survived without large-scale modern alteration, so the plan and building forms remain representative of Central European rural communities of the period.
Holašovice sits in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic amid agricultural land and ponds; it is a rural village rather than an urban centre and is visited for its intact traditional buildings.
- Village layout: The village green and surrounding farmhouses form a compact layout that preserves traditional rural planning and makes the settlement particularly legible for short walking visits.
