Hjálparfoss

Hjálparfoss is a waterfall in southern Iceland known for its twin streams that fall into a rounded plunge pool framed by basalt columns. The falls are set in a scenic river valley and are a frequent stop on drives into the interior highlands.

A short walk from the roadside parking area brings visitors to riverside viewing platforms close to the falls. The site is compact and accessible on foot from the car park, making it an easy short visit combined with other attractions in the Þjórsárdalur valley.

The falls are formed where two rivers converge and drop into the same pool, producing the characteristic two-lobed appearance and columnar basalt scenery.

Hjálparfoss is located in the southern region of Iceland in the Þjórsárdalur valley, within reach of interior routes that run by the area; it lies inland from the southern lowlands and relatively near volcanic landscapes such as Hekla.
