Historic Quarter of the City of Colonia del Sacramento

The Historic Quarter of the City of Colonia del Sacramento is a compact colonial district on the Río de la Plata in southwestern Uruguay, preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its mixture of Portuguese and Spanish urban forms. The quarter dates to the town’s foundation by the Portuguese in 1680 and retains cobbled streets, low colonial houses and fortification remnants.
