Het Schip

Het Schip is a landmark Amsterdam School social housing complex in the Spaarndammerbuurt neighbourhood of Amsterdam. It is widely cited as an important example of early 20th-century social housing architecture.

Commissioned as municipal workers’ housing in the early 20th century, the complex was designed as part of a movement to improve living conditions through planned social housing and architectural quality. Parts of the complex have been preserved and repurposed to display period interiors and explanatory exhibits.

Located in the Spaarndammerbuurt district in northwest Amsterdam, the complex sits within a residential neighbourhood of similar-scale housing and is accessible by public transport and on foot from nearby tram stops.
