Healesville Sanctuary

Healesville Sanctuary is an Australian wildlife park focused on native species, located in the Yarra Valley near Melbourne. Unlike zoos that emphasize exotic spectacle, Healesville plays a conservation and education role: it breeds endangered native species, provides rehabilitation, and gives visitors a chance to see animals in settings that approximate their natural habitats.

The sanctuary was founded in the 1930s and has since become a national leader in wildlife care. Here, platypuses are cared for in specialized enclosures, endangered birds nest in protected aviaries, and the eucalypts are more than decor - they are habitat.
