Hardap Dam is a large earthfill dam on the Fish River in central-southern Namibia that impounds the Hardap Reservoir, the country’s largest man-made reservoir.
Constructed in the mid-20th century to provide water storage for irrigation and municipal supply, the dam transformed an ephemeral river landscape into a permanent reservoir serving the Hardap Region. The reservoir has since become an important regional water resource and focal point for local recreation.
The dam and reservoir lie in the Hardap Region of Namibia near the town of Mariental in central-southern Namibia, set within a semi-arid landscape dominated by riverine and irrigated farmland.

Hardap Dam is about 20 km southwest of Mariental. From Windhoek it is roughly a 2.5-3 hour drive along the B1 and D1082 roads. The nearest town with services is Mariental; fuel, food and accommodation are best arranged there.

- If driving from Windhoek, plan fuel stops carefully-the region is sparsely serviced beyond Mariental.
- Visit the dam wall at sunset when the light softens the vast salt pans and the resident waterfowl are most active.
