How to Get to Hampi (town)
Hampi's ruins are best reached via Hosapete/Hospet (HPT) railway station or by road from regional airports (Hubli or Bengaluru). The Hospet railhead places you within a short taxi/auto-rickshaw ride of the UNESCO site.
Hubli Airport (HBX): Hubli is one of the nearer airports for Hampi/Hosapete but it is still a long road journey (roughly 150-200 km depending on route) - many travellers instead fly to Bangalore (BLR) and continue overland.
Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) - Bengaluru: Bangalore is the main international gateway; from BLR you can take an overnight train or a domestic flight to Hospet/Hosapete or Hubli followed by a road transfer to Hampi.
Train: The main railhead for Hampi is Hosapete/Hospet Junction (HPT), about 13-15 km from Hampi’s ruins. Trains run from major cities (Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Goa) to Hospet; from Hospet take an auto-rickshaw or taxi (~20-30 minutes) to Hampi town.
Bus: State-run and private buses serve Hospet and Hampi from nearby cities; overnight sleeper buses from Bangalore and other regional hubs are common and drop at Hospet or nearby bus stations.
How to Get Around Hampi (town) #
Hampi town (the modern hamlet around the ruins) is very walkable and most visitors get around on foot between temples and the bazaar. Bicycle and scooter rentals are widely available and are popular for covering longer distances. Auto-rickshaws and local drivers can take you to outlying sites; hire rates are usually negotiable. Bring cash for rentals and small purchases.
