The Hallwyl Museum is a historic house museum in central Stockholm that preserves the city home and collection of Count and Countess von Hallwyl. The house was constructed in the 1890s to display the family’s collection and was later turned into a public museum preserving original interiors and objects.
Rooms on display include domestic apartments and reception rooms furnished with late 19th and early 20th century fittings, together with paintings, decorative arts and applied arts from the von Hallwyl collection. The museum is valued for its intact period interiors and its comprehensive presentation of a wealthy Stockholm household of the turn of the 20th century.
The building and collection were given to the Swedish state by Wilhelmina von Hallwyl and are managed as a museum that allows close study of historic domestic architecture and private collecting practices.
