Haghartsin Monastery is a medieval Armenian monastic complex in Tavush Province, set in a forested valley near the town of Dilijan. The complex includes multiple churches, a gavit and ancillary monastic buildings and dates principally to the 10th to 13th centuries.
The site features carved stonework, freestanding khachkars and traditional Armenian ecclesiastical architecture, and visitors explore the stone churches, vaulted narthexes and small courtyards. The location is known for its wooded setting and mountain views, and it is a common day-trip destination from nearby towns.
The monastery was established and expanded during the medieval period by Armenian clerical and local patrons and functioned as a religious and community centre through the middle ages. Many of the surviving buildings reflect construction phases between the 10th and 13th centuries and later repairs.
Haghartsin sits in a valley of Tavush Province in northeastern Armenia, within driving distance of the town of Dilijan, and is surrounded by forested slopes and streams.

How to Get to Haghartsin Monastery#
Haghartsin is about 20-25 km east of Dilijan town. From Dilijan, minibuses (marshrutkas) and taxis run regularly; the drive is roughly 30-40 minutes on winding mountain roads. Private car access is straightforward via the Haghartsin turnoff off the M-4 highway.

- Combine a visit with Dilijan - take the regional minibus (marshrutka) from Dilijan bus station to Haghartsin; taxis are inexpensive and save time.
- Wear decent shoes: some approaches are gravel and wet after rain; the monastery's elevated viewpoints reward small scrambles.
- Visit the tea house at the top courtyard for views down the valley and to hear the bell tower at dusk.
