Haghartsin Monastery

Haghartsin Monastery is a medieval Armenian monastic complex in Tavush Province, set in a forested valley near the town of Dilijan. The complex includes multiple churches, a gavit and ancillary monastic buildings and dates principally to the 10th to 13th centuries.

The site features carved stonework, freestanding khachkars and traditional Armenian ecclesiastical architecture, and visitors explore the stone churches, vaulted narthexes and small courtyards. The location is known for its wooded setting and mountain views, and it is a common day-trip destination from nearby towns.

The monastery was established and expanded during the medieval period by Armenian clerical and local patrons and functioned as a religious and community centre through the middle ages. Many of the surviving buildings reflect construction phases between the 10th and 13th centuries and later repairs.

Haghartsin sits in a valley of Tavush Province in northeastern Armenia, within driving distance of the town of Dilijan, and is surrounded by forested slopes and streams.
