Hagaparken is a large public park in Solna Municipality, immediately north of central Stockholm, known for its English-style landscape, historic buildings and recreational facilities. The park dates to the late 18th century when it was developed as royal grounds and remains part of Stockholm’s Royal National City Park.
Prominent features include the neoclassical Haga Palace, extensive lawns and wooded promenades, and the public tropical conservatory Fjärilshuset (the Butterfly House). The park is used for walking, cycling and informal recreation and contains several listed buildings and follies.
Hagaparken was laid out under King Gustav III in the late 1700s as a landscaped royal domain and has since been adapted for public use while retaining its historic character.
Geographically the park sits in Solna, immediately northwest of central Stockholm, and is readily accessible from the city by public transport in roughly 10-20 minutes depending on connection.

Hagaparken is reachable by Stockholm public transit: take the metro (Tunnelbana) to Odenplan or Universitetet, then a short bus (line 507/510) or a 20-30 minute walk north along the waterfront to the park. From central Stockholm it’s about 6 km; many visitors use bike paths that run along the water. The nearest commuter rail stop is Solna Strand; from there it’s a 20-25 minute walk.
Tips for Visiting Hagaparken #
- Enter from the north (near the Haga Park metro stop) to avoid the crowded southern approach from Brunnsviken.
- Don't miss the small Gustav III Pavilion and the terraced gardens; they get overlooked by photographers who head straight for the Butterfly House.
- Bring a picnic - locals often queue at the Haga Bakery for their famous cinnamon buns (kanelbulle).
