Hadrian's Gate
Monument Roman triumphal arch and Antalya archaeological landmark
Antalya’s Hadrian’s Gate, a Roman triumphal arch erected for Emperor Hadrian, marks the entrance to the old city; visitors pass through to museums, narrow streets and the harbourfront.
Hadrian’s Gate is a Roman triumphal arch in Antalya, Turkey, built in 130 AD to commemorate the visit of Emperor Hadrian. It is a well-preserved marble gateway forming part of the ancient city walls.
The monument presents a triple-arched façade with a larger central arch flanked by two smaller arches and attached towers. It sits at the entrance to Antalya’s historic Kaleiçi district and is a frequent focal point for photographs and short walks through the old town.
The gate was erected in 130 AD as a ceremonial entrance and has survived through Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods, undergoing repairs and conservation works over time. It marks one of the surviving Roman-era structures integrated into the later urban fabric of Antalya.
Hadrian’s Gate stands in Kaleiçi, Antalya’s historic centre, adjacent to the modern city and within walking distance of the old harbour and waterfront.
