How to Get to Gurlan
Gurlan in Uzbekistan's Khorazm Region is most easily reached via Urgench International Airport or by rail to Urgench/Nukus followed by a short road transfer. Local minibuses and taxis handle the last-mile connections.
Urgench International Airport (UGC): Urgench is the primary airport serving Khorezm Region and is the closest airport to Gurlan. From Urgench to Gurlan is typically a short road trip (roughly 30-60 minutes depending on exact start/end points); taxis and shared cars (marshrutkas) are commonly used. Expect modest local fares - negotiate or ask at the terminal.
Tashkent International Airport (TAS): For international arrivals with more flight options, travelers often fly into Tashkent and continue domestically by air or rail to Urgench or Nukus then by road to Gurlan. Domestic flights from Tashkent to Urgench take about 1-1.5 hours; follow with a road transfer of under 2 hours to reach Gurlan.
Train: Uzbekistan Railways connects Urgench and Nukus with Tashkent and other regional hubs; the rail network is a practical way to reach the Khorezm region. From Urgench station a taxi or marshrutka will get you to Gurlan in under an hour. Ticket prices on domestic trains vary by class but are generally affordable.
Bus/Marshrutka: Local minibuses (marshrutkas) and regional buses link Urgench, Khiva, Gurlan and surrounding settlements. These share-route services are the most common low-cost option; journey times are short for Gurlan once in the Khorezm area and fares are low (local sums in Uzbek som).
How to Get Around Gurlan #
Gurlan’s centre is compact and walkable, with most daily needs close by. For travel around the region you’ll find shared taxis and minibuses (marshrutkas) connecting to larger centres such as Khiva and Urgench.
