Gumbaynggirr National Park
National Park Coastal national park protecting rainforest and wetlands
A New South Wales park protecting coastal rainforest and cultural sites of the Gumbaynggirr people; visited for walking tracks, birdwatching and cultural interpretation.
Gumbaynggirr National Park is a protected area on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Australia, named for the Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal people. It conserves coastal forest and shoreline environments important to local biodiversity and cultural heritage.
The park includes stretches of coastal rainforest, headlands and shoreline habitat where visitors can look for native birdlife and coastal plants. Walking tracks and informal beach access provide opportunities for short hikes and nature observation rather than extensive alpine-style trekking.
The land is part of the traditional country of the Gumbaynggirr people and was set aside for conservation under the New South Wales parks system. Management aims combine conservation of native ecosystems with protection of Aboriginal cultural values.
The park sits on the New South Wales Mid North Coast between the larger regional centres of Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie, adjacent to coastal waterways and beaches. Access is from local coastal roads and nearby coastal towns.
- Cultural significance: The park lies on the traditional lands of the Gumbaynggirr Aboriginal people and contains culturally important sites and landscapes.
