How to Get to Guaymas

Guaymas on the Sea of Cortez has a small regional airport (GYM) and good bus connections to the larger Sonoran hub of Hermosillo. There is no regular passenger rail service, so most visitors arrive by air to Hermosillo or by intercity bus.

By Air

Guaymas International Airport (GYM) / General José María Yáñez International Airport (GYM): Guaymas has a small regional airport (GYM) with seasonal and limited scheduled flights; arrival and departure are quick and the airport is about 10-20 minutes from downtown Guaymas by taxi (around MXN 150-300 / USD ~8-15).

Hermosillo - General Ignacio Pesqueira García International (HMO): Hermosillo is the nearest larger airport (about 2-2.5 hours by road). From HMO you can take a bus or hire a taxi/rental car to Guaymas. Bus fares Hermosillo-Guaymas are typically MXN 150-300 and the trip takes about 2-2.5 hours.

By Train & Bus

Train: Mexico has almost no regular intercity passenger rail service in Sonora; there is no practical passenger train to Guaymas.

Bus: Intercity buses are the main public transport link. Companies such as Tufesa and local carriers operate routes between Guaymas, Hermosillo and other Sonoran cities. Typical travel times: Guaymas-Hermosillo ~2-2.5 hours; Guaymas-Ciudad Obregón ~3-3.5 hours. Fares vary by company and class: expect roughly MXN 150-400 depending on service level.
