Guanting Reservoir Reservoir

Guanting Reservoir is a large reservoir in Hebei province on the upper reaches of the Yongding River system, northwest of Beijing. It was constructed in the 20th century to provide water storage for irrigation, flood control and urban supply and at times served as a major source for Beijing. Over recent decades the reservoir has faced water quality challenges including eutrophication and pollution, which have affected its role as a potable water source. The reservoir lies near the boundary between Hebei province and the Beijing municipality and forms a notable water body in the regional landscape.
