Gros Horloge

The Gros-Horloge is a historic astronomical clock and ornate street arch in Rouen, Normandy, notable for its medieval mechanism and Renaissance decoration.

The clock mechanism was installed in the late 14th century; the decorative arch and dial that span the street were added in the early 16th century. The belfry and clock have regulated civic time and bells for centuries and have been conserved as part of Rouen’s urban heritage.

Sited in the historic centre of Rouen on the Rue du Gros-Horloge, the monument sits within walking distance of Rouen Cathedral and other medieval streets and squares.
