How to Get to Grimming #
From Bad Mitterndorf (about 10 km south), follow local roads to the Loserblick parking area; the southern approach begins near the Loser alpine road. From Salzburg, drive southeast on the A10 then B145/B146 (roughly 90-100 km, 1.5-2 hours). Public transit: regional trains to Bad Mitterndorf or Bad Aussee and a taxi or local bus to the trailhead.
Tips for Visiting Grimming #
- Approach from the south via the village of Bad Mitterndorf to avoid the longer north-side approach; the trailhead at the Loserblick car park shaves kilometers off the ascent.
- Start before dawn in summer to catch the sunlight spill across the Dachstein and Totes Gebirge - afternoons bring clouds and gusts.
- Bring crampons in winter and early spring: the Grimming's north faces hold snow late into the year and the final ridge is exposed.
Best Time to Visit Grimming #
Best visited late spring through early autumn for non-technical ascents; winter is for experienced climbers with proper equipment.
