Griffith Stadium was a multiuse sports stadium in Washington, D.C., that hosted professional baseball and football and a variety of public events. It was a principal home venue for Washington baseball and football teams across the first half of the 20th century.
The stadium opened in the early 1910s and remained in use through the mid-1960s before being demolished in 1965. During its existence it hosted Major League Baseball, professional football, Negro League games and large public gatherings.
Located within the District of Columbia, the site has since been redeveloped and the stadium no longer stands. Its legacy remains part of Washington’s early professional sports history.
