Green Gables (Prince Edward Island)

Green Gables National Historic Site is a preserved farmhouse and cultural site near Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, associated with Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novel “Anne of Green Gables.” The site is managed by Parks Canada and interpreted as the setting that inspired the book.

The property includes the restored house with furnished period rooms, short walking trails through nearby woodlands and dunes, and interpretive exhibits explaining the literary and local context. Many visitors come for guided tours, family-oriented programming and the scenic trails.

The site preserves the rural character of the homestead and interprets the link between the landscape and Montgomery’s writing; programming focuses on the turn-of-the-century island rural life portrayed in the novel.

Located near the community of Cavendish on north-central Prince Edward Island, it sits adjacent to sections of Prince Edward Island National Park and is accessed from local roads serving the Cavendish tourist area.
