Grand Manan is an island in the Bay of Fundy off the southwestern coast of New Brunswick and is the largest of the Bay of Fundy islands. The island is part of Charlotte County and hosts year-round communities with a maritime economy based on fishing, tourism, and boatbuilding.

Visitors come for coastal scenery, seabird viewing, whale watching in the Bay of Fundy, and island communities with local crafts and seafood. Notable coastal features include rocky cliffs, sea stacks and accessible shoreline popular with photographers and naturalists.

How to Get to Grand Manan #

Grand Manan is served by a vehicle and passenger ferry from Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick (operated seasonally by Coastal Transport). Blacks Harbour is reached by road from Saint John and other points in southern New Brunswick (roughly a 1-1.5 hour drive from Saint John depending on route and traffic). The ferry arrives at North Head on Grand Manan; from the North Head ferry terminal you can drive to other island communities (local distances on the island are short).

  • Check the ferry schedule from Blacks Harbour (and book vehicle space well in advance for summer weekends) before planning dates-ferry capacity is limited on peak days.
