Graciosa, Canary Islands Island

Graciosa (La Graciosa) is a small Canary Island north of Lanzarote in the Chinijo Archipelago, with a small permanent population and low-density development. It is included within a marine and island nature reserve governed by regional conservation rules.

The island offers a single main village and port, a network of sandy beaches and coastal tracks, and a very small-scale tourism scene focused on swimming, hiking and cycling. Visitors value the island for its quiet beaches and views across the channel to neighboring islets.

Historically sparsely inhabited and used for fishing, Graciosa has remained lightly developed; over recent decades tourism and conservation designation have shaped local infrastructure and services. Traditional fishing and small-scale agriculture remain present alongside visitor facilities.

La Graciosa lies off the northeast coast of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, administratively part of Lanzarote municipality; the island is a short ferry ride from the port of Órzola on Lanzarote.

• Playa de las Conchas: A largely sandy bay and dunes on the northern shore, noted for clear water and views across the channel to nearby islands.

La Graciosa (Canary Islands) is reached by ferry from Órzola on northern Lanzarote; the crossing to Caleta de Sebo (the island’s port) takes around 20-30 minutes. Ferries run several times daily from Órzola; check local schedules seasonally.

Arrecife (Lanzarote’s airport) is a drive of roughly 30-45 minutes to Órzola depending on route and traffic (around 35-40 km); on arrival at Caleta de Sebo the main village and beaches are within easy walking distance of the ferry landing.

• Catch one of the regular ferries from Órzola (Lanzarote) early in the day - Caleta de Sebo is small and services are limited, so arriving early gives you more choices for activities and return trips.
• Plan on exploring by foot or bicycle: the island is compact and there are few rental cars and limited roads, so short cycling loops let you reach beaches and viewpoints that many day-trippers miss.
• Bring cash and supplies for the day and check opening days for restaurants and shops - Caleta de Sebo has basic services but not the full range you'll find on larger Canary Islands.
• If you want quieter beaches, head to the island's small coves and bays away from Caleta de Sebo in the morning or late afternoon, when snorkeling conditions are often calmer.
