Göygöl National Park protects a group of mountain lakes and surrounding mixed-conifer forests in western Azerbaijan, with Lake Göygöl as its best-known feature. The area is valued for its natural landscapes and biodiversity.
The lake known as Göygöl was formed as the landscape changed after a major medieval seismic event, and the surrounding area has long been recognized for its scenic and ecological value. The site has been set aside for protection under Azerbaijan’s system of reserves and parks.
The park sits in the Lesser Caucasus foothills in western Azerbaijan near the city of Ganja, occupying upland terrain of steep forested slopes and mountain basins rather than lowland plains.
