How to Get to Goychay (city)#

Goychay is most commonly reached from Baku (Heydar Aliyev International Airport) by road - marshrutkas and intercity buses provide frequent, low-cost links. Regional rail and smaller airports exist but are of limited practical use unless connections align with your schedule.

By Air

Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD): Baku’s main international airport is the main air gateway for travel to Goychay. By car the journey to Goychay is roughly 2-2.5 hours depending on traffic (about 220-240 km). Taxis and private transfers are available from the airport; domestic flights are not used for this route.

Gabala / Ganja (regional airports): Gabala and Ganja have regional airport services but schedules are limited; these airports can reduce road travel time if you find a scheduled service, otherwise most international travellers use Baku.

By Train & Bus

Train: Azerbaijan Railways operates services on the country’s main corridors; regional rail connections can be used to reach nearby towns (Yevlakh is a larger rail hub). From Yevlakh or nearby stations you will usually switch to bus or taxi to reach Goychay.

Bus / Marshrutka: Marshrutkas (shared minibuses) and intercity buses run from Baku’s central bus stations to Goychay and surrounding towns; journey time from Baku is typically around 2.5-3 hours depending on route and traffic. Fares are modest (regional AZN fares are low); marshrutkas are the most frequent option for direct regional travel.

How to Get Around Goychay (city)#

Regional travel around Goychay works best by marshrutka or intercity bus for budget travellers and by taxi or rented car for flexibility. Use trains only as part of a planned itinerary that includes a short bus/taxi connection.

  • Marshrutka / intercity minibus (AZN 3-8) - Marshrutkas are the common and inexpensive way to travel regionally; they depart frequently from bus terminals in Baku and other regional centres. They are fast and direct but can be crowded and have variable schedules - arrive early on busy days.
  • Intercity bus (AZN 4-12) - Scheduled coach services between Baku and regional hubs are slightly more comfortable than marshrutkas and drop at main stations; travel times to Goychay are about 2.5-3 hours from Baku. Book or check timetables for early-morning departures.
  • Taxi / private transfer (AZN 50-120) - Private taxis or hired cars give door-to-door convenience and are common for groups or timed arrivals; agree the price before departing. A hired car from Baku to Goychay is typically quicker and more flexible than public transport for multiple stops.
  • Train (regional) (AZN 2-10) - Regional rail can bring you to larger nearby hubs such as Yevlakh; from there you transfer by taxi or bus to Goychay. Trains are comfortable but may require connections and timetable checking in advance.
  • Car rental (AZN 40-90 per day) - Renting a car lets you explore central Azerbaijan at your own pace and reach smaller attractions around Goychay. Road signage is generally clear but watch for local driving styles and variable road surfaces outside main highways.
  • Walking - Goychay’s town centre is compact and easily explored on foot; walking is the best way to visit markets, cafés and the festival areas in season.
