Goosenecks State Park

Goosenecks State Park is a Utah state park that preserves a dramatic entrenched meander of the San Juan River, visible from a high paved overlook. The river winds through tight S-shaped bends carved into deep canyon walls, producing a striking aerial-style view.

The park’s primary facility is a short trail from a small parking area to the main viewpoint; the site is oriented to viewing rather than long-distance hiking. The meanders and steep canyon rims create a compact but visually powerful natural attraction.

The entrenched meander formed as the river cut downward into uplifted plateau rock over long time periods; the result is several tightly looping river bends within a narrow canyon. The area has been managed as a state park to protect the viewpoint and provide basic visitor amenities.

Goosenecks State Park is in southeastern Utah near the town of Mexican Hat and the broader Monument Country region; it lies on the Colorado Plateau and is accessible from regional roads serving the area.
