Gongju is best reached by regional bus or by using the national rail network to Cheonan-Asan and transferring onward; the nearest airports are Cheongju International Airport (CJJ) and, for international flights, Incheon International Airport (ICN). Most visitors combine KTX/ITX and a short bus or taxi ride, or come by direct intercity bus from Daejeon or Seoul.

Cheongju International Airport (CJJ): Cheongju is the closest airport to Gongju. From Cheongju Airport you can take an intercity bus or a taxi; buses to Gongju typically take around 40-60 minutes and cost roughly 5,000-10,000 KRW, while a taxi to Gongju is about 40-60 minutes and commonly costs in the range of 50,000-80,000 KRW.

Incheon International Airport (ICN): If you arrive at Incheon, common routes to Gongju are via Seoul or Daejeon. Take the AREX/all-stop train or airport limousine to Seoul Station (about 50-70 minutes, ~4,000-9,500 KRW) then KTX/ITX to Cheonan-Asan and a local bus or taxi on to Gongju (see train details below). Alternatively, airport limousine buses to Daejeon take around 2-2.5 hours (roughly 15,000-18,000 KRW), then transfer to an intercity bus to Gongju (about 40-60 minutes, 3,000-5,000 KRW).
