Golestan Palace

Golestan Palace is a historic royal complex in central Tehran that served as the ceremonial residence of the Qajar dynasty. The ensemble comprises palaces, halls and gardens notable for painted decoration, mirrored interiors and royal thrones.

Key interior spaces include mirror halls, throne rooms and ornate reception chambers that display Qajar-era decorative arts and architecture. Several structures reflect earlier Safavid and Zand foundations but were substantially rebuilt and decorated during the 19th century.

The complex functioned as the seat of the Qajar court and as a venue for state ceremonies and receptions; over time it was modified and expanded by successive rulers. Today it is managed as a museum complex preserving royal architecture and collections.
