The Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) is a late medieval balcony structure on a corner of a townhouse in Innsbruck’s Old Town, notable for its roof of gilded copper tiles added around 1500 for Emperor Maximilian I.
The small two-storey balcony was built as a ceremonial loggia and decorated with reliefs and paintings; the roof’s gilded tiles form the building’s most recognized feature. The structure sits on a prominent narrow street and functions as a focal point within Innsbruck’s historic centre.
Constructed around the turn of the 16th century for imperial representation, the Goldenes Dachl faces the main pedestrian axis of the old town and is accompanied by gallery space and museum exhibits on the building’s history.
