Georgian Bay Islands National Park is a Canadian national park on eastern Georgian Bay in Ontario that protects islands and shoreline on the Canadian Shield. The park conserves a mix of granite islands, coastal wetlands and forested habitats important for wildlife and recreation.

The park comprises dozens of islands and shoreline parcels that are reached by boat; the largest and most developed island offers marked hiking trails, backcountry and serviced campsites, sheltered bays for anchoring and short interpretive walks. Boating, canoeing, hiking and wildlife viewing are the common activities; many sites are seasonal and accessible only by water.

The park is administered by Parks Canada and was created to conserve island ecosystems while providing recreational access to Georgian Bay. Management focuses on preserving island habitats and limiting infrastructure to protect the shoreline and natural character.

The national park sits in eastern Georgian Bay near mainland access points in the Midland and Honey Harbour area of Ontario. Most visitor access is by private boat or seasonal park ferry to the main island hubs.

  • Access: Seasonal ferry and water access are the main ways to reach island sites; private boats can use anchorages and sheltered bays.
  • Beausoleil Island: Beausoleil Island serves as the park's main visitor facilities with trails and campgrounds; much of the island is managed to minimize motorized traffic.

What to See #

  • Beausoleil Island: The park's largest island and primary visitor hub, reachable by boat; contains marked trails, backcountry campsites and sheltered anchorages for private boats and water taxis.
