Gemenc

Gemenc is a large floodplain forest and protected natural area along the Danube River in southern Hungary, within Tolna County. It is noted for its seasonally flooded woodlands, braided river channels and rich wildlife.

The landscape includes softwood forest, oxbow lakes and wetlands that support many species of birds and mammals. Recreational access is provided by boat safaris and a historic forest railway that operates tourist services into parts of the reserve.

The area has been managed for conservation and sustainable use and is a focus for birdwatching, guided nature tours and river-based excursions.

Gemenc lies along a stretch of the Danube in southern Hungary south of the main urban centres of Tolna County; the forest is reached from riverside towns and by local roads in the region.
