Gelora Bung Karno Stadium

Gelora Bung Karno Stadium is Jakarta’s principal multi-purpose stadium located in the Senayan sports complex and named after Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno. It was built for the 1962 Asian Games and has since been Indonesia’s flagship national stadium.

The venue seats around 77,000 spectators and is used for football, athletics and large-scale concerts and ceremonies. It forms the centrepiece of the larger Gelora Bung Karno sports complex, which contains indoor arenas, training facilities and other sports infrastructure.

Constructed in the early 1960s, the stadium has undergone major renovations, most recently to prepare for the 2018 Asian Games, which upgraded seating, turf and spectator facilities. These works modernised access and amenities while preserving the stadium’s role as the country’s main event venue.

The complex is in Central Jakarta’s Senayan district, close to major arterial roads and public transit; the nearby Istora Mandiri MRT station provides direct access to the site.
