The fjord runs around 15 km from the village of Geiranger to the main fjord system and is part of the West Norwegian Fjords UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Scenic highlights include the dramatic waterfall groups such as the Seven Sisters and the Bridal Veil, narrow water lanes used by cruise ships and small sightseeing boats, and numerous farm terraces clinging to steep slopes. Popular viewpoints include Flydalsjuvet close to Geiranger and the high-elevation Dalsnibba road and viewpoint at about 1,476 m above sea level.
