Gardens by the Bay
Park Futuristic waterfront gardens featuring Supertrees and conservatories
Gardens by the Bay combines the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome conservatories with Supertree Grove and an evening light display on reclaimed Marina Bay land; visitors come for curated plant collections, waterfront promenades and family facilities.
Gardens by the Bay is a large urban nature park in central Singapore on reclaimed land beside Marina Bay, officially opened in 2012 and developed by the National Parks Board. It combines landscaped gardens, large cooled conservatories and engineered vertical gardens known as Supertrees.
Key attractions include the cooled conservatories - the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest - and the Supertree Grove, which features an elevated walkway and nightly light-and-sound displays. The site also contains waterfront promenades, themed gardens and extensive public planting, making it a major horticultural and tourist destination in the city.
The project was developed in the 2000s and opened in stages with the main areas accessible from 2012; it was built to expand green public space and showcase plant collections and sustainable technologies. The gardens continue to host rotating floral displays, exhibitions and events.
The gardens sit on reclaimed land at Marina Bay in central Singapore, immediately adjacent to the Marina Bay Sands complex and the central business district. The main entrances are within easy walking distance of Bayfront MRT station and other downtown transit nodes.
- Supertree light show: The Supertree Grove hosts a nightly light and sound show that is best viewed after dusk from the bay promenade or from the OCBC Skyway for an elevated perspective.
- Cloud Forest waterfall: The Cloud Forest conservatory contains a prominent indoor waterfall rising to approximately 35 metres and a planted mountain feature that is visible from multiple levels within the dome.
What to See #
- Bay South Garden: The largest of the gardens and the site of the two cooled conservatories and Supertree Grove, offering the main visitor hub adjacent to Marina Bay.
- Flower Dome: A cooled glass conservatory housing seasonal floral displays and Mediterranean to semi-arid plantings; it is one of the cooled conservatories that anchor the Gardens.
- Cloud Forest: A cooled conservatory built around a central indoor waterfall and high planted mountain feature, showcasing a cloud forest environment.
- Supertree Grove: A vertical grove of engineered tree-like structures up to about 50 metres tall that feature planting, vertical gardens and an elevated walkway between two trees.
- Bay East and Bay Central: Linear waterfront gardens offering city skyline views and recreational walking paths along Marina Bay.

Gardens by the Bay sits on Marina Gardens Drive in the Marina Bay area and is served directly by Bayfront MRT station (Circle Line/Circle Line CE1 and Downtown Line DT16). Use Exit B at Bayfront MRT and it’s a 5-10 minute walk into the conservatories and Supertree Grove. Taxis and buses also drop off on Marina Gardens Drive; from the Marina Bay/CBD area it’s a short taxi ride (under 10 minutes in normal traffic).
Tips for Visiting Gardens by the Bay #
- Visit early morning on weekdays to enjoy the outdoor gardens in cooler, quieter conditions; save the cooled conservatories (Flower Dome, Cloud Forest) for mid-morning after they open to avoid the first wave of visitors.
- Approach via Bayfront MRT and follow signs to the Gardens' main entrance; the waterfront promenade near Marina Bay gives the best uninterrupted views of Supertree Grove and the city skyline.
- Don't skip the free public areas - the Supertree Grove and Dragonfly Lake are open access and much less crowded before/after the evening light show; buy timed tickets online for the conservatories to avoid ticket queues.
