Ganesh Himal
Mountains Remote Himalayan subrange with several high peaks
High in Nepal’s Bagmati Province, Ganesh Himal offers remote Himalayan peaks and traditional villages; visitors come for trekking, high-altitude scenery, and local mountain trails.
The Ganesh Himal is a mountain subrange in north-central Nepal whose highest summit, Yangra (Ganesh I), reaches 7,422 metres above sea level. The range lies within the greater Himalayan chain and contains several rugged peaks above 6,000 metres.
Trekkers and climbers visit for remote alpine scenery, glacier-fed valleys and high ridgelines; the highest summit draws technical mountaineers rather than mass tourism. Local trekking routes approach the range from valleys north of the Kathmandu Valley and offer panoramic views of the Ganesh peaks.
Mountaineering and mapping of the Ganesh Himal intensified in the 20th century as Himalayan exploration expanded, and several of its peaks were climbed by international expeditions. The range remains less frequented than Nepal’s most famous massifs, retaining a remote mountain character.
Geographically the Ganesh Himal sits north-northwest of Kathmandu in Bagmati Province, within the central Himalayan arc. Access is by road and trailheads that lead into the high valleys surrounding the massif.
