Furesø is a freshwater lake in Denmark’s Capital Region, located in the suburban-parkland area northwest of central Copenhagen. It is a local recreational and natural area within the Copenhagen metropolitan region.
Open water stretches used for boating, swimming and fishing are complemented by walking paths, small beaches and wooded parkland along the shores. The lakeshore is bordered by residential areas and public green spaces that provide easy access for day visitors.
The lake and surrounding landscape developed through post-glacial processes and later became integrated into the recreational and municipal planning of the Copenhagen area; local parks and facilities have been added over the 19th and 20th centuries.
Furesø lies northwest of central Copenhagen in the Capital Region of Denmark, within the Furesø Municipality and surrounded by suburban parkland and towns.
