Best Time to Visit Fujinomiya, Shizuoka #

Best times to visit Fujinomiya are late autumn (October-November) and late winter to early spring (February-April) for crisp, clear views of Mount Fuji and mild weather. Avoid the June-July rainy season and the hot, humid peak summer when visibility and comfort drop.

Cool Season
November - April · 2-18°C (36-64°F)
Clear, crisp weather-late autumn through early spring offers the best Mount Fuji visibility, cool daytime temps, and fewer bugs; mornings can be chilly, especially near the mountain.
Rainy Season
June - July · 18-25°C (64-77°F)
Warm, humid, frequent rain-landscapes turn lush but mountain views are often hidden; expect occasional heavy downpours and increased insect activity.
Hot Season
August - September · 24-33°C (75-91°F)
Hot, humid days with higher thunderstorm and typhoon risk; good for local festivals but Mount Fuji visibility is unreliable and it can feel uncomfortable without air-conditioning.

How to Get to Fujinomiya, Shizuoka

Fujinomiya sits on the north-western slopes of Mount Fuji and is easiest reached by rail via Shin-Fuji (Shinkansen) or directly by regional trains to Fujinomiya Station (JR Minobu Line). Major air gateways are Tokyo's Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT), with Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport (FSZ) the nearest regional airport; transfers from any airport normally involve a Shinkansen or express bus plus a local bus or short train/taxi hop.

By Air

Haneda Airport (HND): Haneda is the most convenient international airport for reaching Fujinomiya. Typical route is by train: take the Tokyo Monorail or Keikyu to Shinagawa (¥300-¥600, 15-25 min), then a Tokaido Shinkansen from Shinagawa to Shin-Fuji (about 1h-1h15, ¥5,000-¥6,500 one-way); from Shin-Fuji transfer by local train or bus to Fujinomiya Station (20-40 min, ¥200-¥1,200).

Narita Airport (NRT): Narita is farther from Fujinomiya but still usable. Common options are Narita Express or Keisei+JR into central Tokyo (¥1,000-¥3,000, 60-90 min) then onward by Shinkansen to Shin-Fuji as above (total travel time ~2.5-3.5 hours, total cost typically ¥7,000-¥10,000).

Mt. Fuji Shizuoka (Shizuoka) Airport (FSZ): Shizuoka (also called Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport) is the closest regional airport in Shizuoka Prefecture. From FSZ take the free shuttle to Shimada/Shizuoka-bound buses or a direct airport bus to Shin-Fuji / Shizuoka area (total 60-90 min depending on route, fares about ¥1,000-¥2,000), then transfer to local train or bus to Fujinomiya (another 30-60 min).

By Train & Bus

Train: Fujinomiya is served by Fujinomiya Station (富士宮駅) on the JR Minobu Line; this is the local rail hub for the city and for buses up to the Subaru Line 5th Station of Mount Fuji. For long-distance rail access use the Tokaido Shinkansen to Shin-Fuji Station (新富士駅) - from Shin-Fuji transfer by local train/bus/taxi to Fujinomiya (20-40 min). Typical Shinkansen fare from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji is around ¥5,000-¥6,500 (1h-1h15).

Bus: Local Fujinomiya city buses and Fujikyu (Fujisan) buses link Fujinomiya Station with neighbourhoods and tourist spots (most local fares ~¥200-¥700). Seasonal and express highway buses run between Tokyo (Shinjuku) / Kawaguchiko and the Mt. Fuji area - expect one-way fares in the ¥2,000-¥3,000 range and journey times of 2-2.5 hours depending on routing. Direct shuttle buses to the Subaru Line 5th Station operate in the climbing season (check seasonal timetables).

How to Get Around Fujinomiya, Shizuoka

Fujinomiya is best navigated by a mix of train and bus: use the Shinkansen to Shin-Fuji or regional JR services to Fujinomiya Station, then local buses or taxis for last-mile travel. For short distances in town, walking and bicycles work well; for trips to Mt. Fuji trailheads, check seasonal bus schedules and book transport in advance during peak season.
