Frederik's Church

Frederik’s Church, often called the Marble Church (Marmorkirken), is a prominent Protestant church in the Frederiksstaden district of Copenhagen, Denmark noted for its large domed roof. It is a visible landmark beside the royal Amalienborg Palace.

A commanding dome and a classical church façade dominate the surrounding square; the interior contains a central nave beneath the dome and offers views from the churchyard towards the waterfront. The dome and exterior proportions make it a frequent subject for photography and guided walks in the district.

Initial plans date from the 18th century as part of the Frederiksstaden urban development; construction was prolonged and completed in later centuries, resulting in the present rococo-classical appearance. The church’s name reflects royal patronage and its association with the nearby palace complex.

Located on the waterfront side of Copenhagen’s Frederiksstaden, the church sits immediately adjacent to Amalienborg Palace and within walking distance of the Nyhavn canal and the city centre.
