Fort William Historical Park

Fort William Historical Park is a large reconstructed fur-trade era site near the mouth of the Kaministiquia River close to Thunder Bay, Ontario, recreating an early 19th-century inland trading post. The park interprets the operations of the Northwest Company and the broader fur trade through reconstructed buildings, demonstrations and interpretive programming.

The park features a fortified palisade, trading and storehouses, dwellings, and activity areas where costumed staff perform trades, voyageur demonstrations and re-enactments to illustrate the seasonal rhythms of the fur-trade economy. Exhibits and programs focus on the economic and cultural relationships between European traders and Indigenous partners during the early 1800s.

The reconstructed site sits on lands beside the Kaministiquia River near modern Thunder Bay and is accessible to visitors from the city and surrounding region.
