Fort Lytton National Park protects a late 19th-century coastal fortress at the mouth of the Brisbane River in Queensland, Australia. The fort was constructed in the 1880s to defend Brisbane.
The park’s main attraction is the intact brick fort with a surrounding moat and gun emplacements; interpretation panels and a museum display explain the site’s military role. Grounds are used for heritage events and living history demonstrations that show weapons, uniforms and fort operations.
Constructed by the colony of Queensland during the 1880s, the fort formed part of Brisbane’s coastal defenses and remained in military use into the 20th century. It has been conserved as a historic site and is managed for public interpretation and heritage education.
Located at Lytton on the north bank of the Brisbane River mouth, the park sits within the metropolitan area east of central Brisbane and is reached by road from the city.
