Fort Klamath is the site of a former 19th-century United States Army post located near Upper Klamath Lake in south-central Oregon. The fort operated during the late 1800s as a regional military post and supply centre in the Klamath Basin.
Today the site is visited for its historic remains, including a small cemetery and traces of building foundations, and is interpreted with signage explaining the fort’s role in regional military and Native American history. It is not a large museum complex but rather a historic site within a forested landscape.
The fort was established during a period of frontier military activity and later decommissioned as regional conditions changed; its buildings and facilities were removed or repurposed over time. Preservation focuses on the remaining physical features and historical interpretation.
Fort Klamath sits near the western shore of Upper Klamath Lake and at the southern end of the Cascade Range foothills, within Klamath County and close to national forest lands and recreational routes.
